A QR code (abbreviated from Quick Response code) is a type of matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code) first designed for the automotive industry. QR codes are commonly known in Japan where it was created by one of Toyota’s subsidiary companies Denso-Wave in 1994.
A QR code is a two dimensional barcode that holds specific information in it. When you scan and decode a QR code using any mobile phone with a camera and a free QR code decoder on it, you would be able to decipher and access the information. It could be a Web site URL, a person’s contact details, or just simple text.
More recently, the system has become popular outside of the industry due to its fast readability and comparatively large storage capacity. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded can be made up of any kind of data (e.g., alphanumeric, symbols).
QR codes storing addresses and Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) may appear in magazines, newspapers, books, art, TV, billboards, product packaging, promotional products, on signs, on bus stations, on realtor’s home for sale signs, on business cards, dog collar, offline purchasing or on almost any object about which users might need information.
